On most sites the real cost is not the generator. It is the cabling. Long runs from a single supply point, trip hazards through walkways, cable that has to be laid, protected and moved again next week, and an electrician booked before anyone can start.
A portable BESS removes that problem by putting the power source at the work face. The unit goes where the tools are: down in the basement, up on the deck, inside the tunnel, beside the gondola.

You do not have to remove the generator on day one.
Hybrid is usually the sensible first step. The battery carries the base load, the overnight load and everything intermittent. The generator only starts when it is genuinely needed, and when it does run, it runs at efficient load instead of idling all night to serve a drill and a floodlight.

Runtime hours on the generator drop sharply, and so do refuelling trips, servicing intervals and fuel storage on site.

When the battery units are charged and deployed, and the generator is not needed, it gets switched off. That is where the runtime and the fuel bill fall away.

Up to 70 per cent cost savings on hybrid deployments
This is a hybrid model, not a full diesel replacement strategy. Most sites run diesel for everything, including the hours when diesel is at its least efficient. Shift the right loads to battery energy storage and the generator runs less, burns less and costs less.

On a modelled six-storey site drawing about 60 kW for 10 hours a day, a hybrid EH-One+ and EH-Cube+ deployment came out roughly 40 to 50 per cent below the total cost of a 125 kVA diesel generator set, and avoided around 223 tonnes of CO₂ a year. On sites where the generator is badly oversized for the actual load, which is most of them, we have seen savings reach as high as 70 per cent. The system is a lot more than the battery.
A working deployment is a battery, an inverter, a charging strategy, protection, distribution, telemetry, a duty cycle, and an operator who understands what they are looking at. Buying those pieces separately and hoping they cooperate is how projects go wrong at the worst possible moment.

The unit sits beside the operator instead of at the far end of a hundred-metre run, so there is less cable to lay, less to trip over and less to reinstate. Clean power for stages, LED walls, food and beverage, lighting and AV, in venues where diesel is not acceptable and a generator failure happens in front of an audience.
